A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF ANCIENT CHINESE ECOLOGICAL EDUCATION THOUGHT AND ITS MODERN SIGNIFICANCE
Authors: Cui Yonghong & Pi Xiaoming
ABSTRACT
Ancient Chinese ecological education thought, rich in ecological wisdom, constitutes an important part of China’s excellent traditional culture. Through historical review and ideological analysis, this study systematically organizes the developmental trajectory of ancient Chinese ecological education thought, analyzing its connotations, characteristics, and influences. Rooted in the core principles of “harmony between humanity and nature “and “conforming to natural laws” ancient Chinese ecological education thought embodies unique features such as systemic integrity, practical sustainability, and moral-ethical dimensions. Its emphasis on respecting natural laws and pursuing harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature aligns closely with modern ecological civilization concepts. Integrating this ancient wisdom into contemporary educational practices—through curriculum systems, campus environments, and teacher development—serves not only as a continuation of cultural heritage but also holds profound significance for educational philosophy, pedagogical approaches, and global perspectives. This integration provides theoretical foundations and practical guidance for modern ecological education.
